Personally I think balance isn’t something you find once — it’s something created and maintained, day by day, with grace and prayer.

For a long time, I thought balance meant keeping all the pieces spinning perfectly. Then I got burnt out.

Over the last ten years or so and more lately, God’s been teaching me the power of resting. Trusting more than trying. Surrendering instead of striving. Asking for help. Depending on others and giving thanks. This is what balance looks like to me.

Of course it takes courage, which seems counterintuitive in our modern Western culture to practice these types of principals. To value rest and reflection even higher than busy-ness and production. Some days I really struggle in my mind because I feel like I have little “to show” for my days work when in actuality the progress has been made in a secret place. An invisible place.

Balancing creativity, business, and family life is challenging. As I get older my priorities have shifted too (thankfully) where I am content to spend a majority of my time helping others. This is where I find great meaning and purpose.

Whatever I might be doing, I know that I am meant to do it with purpose, and to trust that God fills in the rest.

Best,

Emily
